Matcha Flavored Drinks

Matcha is a green powdered tea that can be used to make both food and drinks. It can have a very powerful and bitter taste. Warm matcha drinks are great on a cold winter day so that is why I picked it for this month's drink flavor.

Matcha Ramune

This had a nice mellow matcha flavor and would be a good way to introduce someone to the flavor that has never had it before. I found this drink at POM in Aurora.

A-SHA Matcha Keroppi Milk Tea

I was surprised by the smoothness of this drink. Also the bobas in the can were the perfect texture and chewyness. As always though, it was had to get the bobas out. The normal can pop tab is not very conducive to boba dispension. I would get this again. Found at World Market in their Hello Kitty section. Tried December 2023.

Yoko Organic Matcha Tea

Description from the back of the bottle: "Yoko's the traditional Japanese art of drinking green herbal match tea rendered in a new form. Yoko is a potent source of catechins that may support metabolism, boost energy and support brain function. Yoko contains natural caffeine and is an excellent alternative to coffee, it was created according to the traditional ceremony, using organic and unprocessed matcha green tea from the certified farm."

Well...this product goes on to my list of the grossest things I have ever ate/drunk. It took me awhile to drink because every time I took a sip I wanted to puke. It slightly reminded me of either seaweed or the wheatgrass shots you can get at juice bars that had been regurgitated by a sick farm animal. Or at least that is the closest comparison I can come up with. Do not buy this product if you value your taste buds or stomach. I found this product at World Market and tried it in December 2023. 

Rico Matcha Flavored Bubble Milk Tea

I was actually surprised at how smooth the matcha flavor was. This would be a good drink to introduce a person to matcha without them being over powered by the bitterness common with matcha. The bobas also had a good texture. I found this drink at World Market, but this brand can be found at a lot of stores like Five Below and Safeway. Tried December 2023.

Drinks At Restaurants

Matcha Drink (Sharetea)

This was a very standard match slush drink that you can choose to put bobas in or not. I've stopped adding them at Sharetea since they now have an additional charge if you want any. At the time of this writing it is 75 cents extra. It was ok in flavor, but did not stand out....so I won't be getting it again since they have better things on their menu.

Matcha Creama (Sharetea)

The matcha on this was very bitter. Part of that was my fault since in order to try and be slightly healthy, I told them to go with the zero sugar option. Why does health have to taste so bad?...... At the same time the creama top on this was amazing. It was salty and just funky enough to standout in a different way then most people are used to, even in boba drink toppers. Tried January 2024.

Matcha Frappe (Dazbog)

The Dazbog that I got this from was not a normal location. It was a mini one in a hospital. The matcha flavor was very strong to the point where it dried your mouth out like sand and I needed another drink after it to just wash it down. Not worth the money I paid. Tried January 2023.

Iced Matcha Latte (Dunkin)

So I ordered the drink as is with the only adjustment being light ice. Even with that the drink was still mostly ice. It wasn't exactly weak on the matcha flavor, but it was boring. When I got the drink home I decided to doctor it up by adding some rose syrup and then it was good. The base drink is OK, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are able to doctor it up. Tried February 2023.

Matcha Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk (The Alley)

For a matcha drink this one was about average in taste. When my mom tried it she thought it was really grassy in taste. This drink was really drying and I felt like I needed to drink something after drinking this because of how thirsty it made me. Tried April 2023 during the grand opening of the Greenwood Village location.

Iced Matcha Latte (MoCha)

This was not a balanced matcha drink. The matcha was overwhelming and the bitterness was so strong that the drink felt like it was sucking moisture from you as you were drinking it. This drink was also super expensive when compared to similar drinks at other places. I wouldn't get it again. Tried May 2023.

Iced Matcha (Starbucks)

Like most Starbucks' drinks drinks it just wasn't that good. Even though the over all taste of the matcha drink was weak, it was still very drying. I felt like it made me thirstier. Tried October 2023.
