Stone Soup
I first became aware of the concept of stone soup from a book as a child. A child and his grandmother had nothing to eat and his grandmother comes up with the idea that he should put a stone into a pot of hot water. From there the village comes together with each person giving one item until they can make a full soup for everyone. There have been many different versions of this tale and if you try to google it many different children's books will come up from all different cultures with the same concept. After my mother read me this book, stone soup became a concept in our house where you would bring together all different ingredients to make a soup when you didn't know what else to cook.
Stone soup is a good thing to do with leftovers that you are bored with or for leftover holiday foods you want to transform into something new and exciting once you have tired of them or they are about to go bad. Below I will give my stone soup recipes as I make them so you can get some ideas on ones you can make.12/30/21
The leftovers from Christmas: about a pound of honey baked ham diced up, vegies from a vegie tray (carrots, one slice of green pepper, one piece cauliflower, and celery).Fresh foods: half a pot of water, one can tomato paste, ground chia seeds, two beef bouillon cubs, turmeric, and diced garlic (I always keep a large jar in the fridge). Then I realized that it was still too watery, so I decided to add some instant rice to help suck up the excess water. I let this reduce for about 15 minutes. In the end I had what I consider one of the best tasting things I have ever made.
