Peppermint Flavored Drinks December 2022

For this December I will be reviewing drinks with the classic holiday flavor of peppermint. This is one of those flavors that have become so linked with the winter season that people use it's appearance as their holiday trigger. Each year I'm excited to see all the different ways it will be used. Peppermint is a flavor that can quickly become overpowering, but at the same time people are so afraid to use it that they underestimate how much to use and it can quickly become overpowered. For me peppermint brings memories of the holidays past and I use it to help me get in the holiday mood.

Drinks You Can Pick Up At The Store

Candy Cane Soda (Rocket Fizz)
It tasted like rancid red cream soda that had a hint of tooth paste in it. Not mint tooth paste, but the baking soda kind. It seems like a lot of the Rocket Fizz sodas are just gross and I think it is the base they use on all of them. I'm not sure how their taster is when they develop these sodas, but they just need to be stopped. Do not buy this soda if you care about your taste buds.

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Iced Espresso
While stopping by a gas station I saw this and though I would give it a try. It was actually way better then what you can get at their stores because it actually has a good balance in the flavors and you can actually taste the peppermint. I think I would be much more willing to buy this product again instead of ordering another drink from an actual Starbucks.

12 Cocoas of Christmas (Marketplace Brands) Peppermint Cocoa
Bland for the most part. I used the largest setting on my maker which is 10 oz and it was also super watered down. I also noticed that not all of the mix came out. There was only a slight after taste of peppermint.

Drinks At Restaurants

Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino (Starbucks)

This was more of a frozen hot chocolate then a drink with peppermint in it. The peppermint was way too weak. I've noticed with Starbucks you have to tell them to add extra flavoring to actually get a good drink. For this one I would say it would have to have at least 4 more pumps of flavoring for a large. Then the drink as is had a really bad bitter taste. I'm not sure where this taste came from, but I would guess it was from the coffee in it but it could have been the chocolate as well if they used a dark chocolate. Starbucks has a habit of using over roasted beans. Not good, and I don't know why I keep trying this every year hoping it will get better.

Peppermint Mocha Latte (Starbucks)
Very bitter. The bitterness either comes from the coffee or chocolate they choose to use. Also didn't have enough peppermint in it. There are just other places doing holiday drinks so much better then Starbucks.

Peppermint Mocha Signature Iced Latte (Dunkin' Donuts)

I was really disappointed in this drink. It was super bitter and there was hardly any peppermint flavoring. Once again I was unsure if the bitter taste come from the coffee or the chocolate in the drink. I won't be going back for this drink.

Peppermint Bark Shake (Haagen-Dazs)

When my mom ordered hers she got extra chocolate in hers and that's why one of the above looked darker. I thought it was good, but pricewise not really worth it when compared to other shakes and their size. A small $7 and change. With tax 2 small ones were $17. Really not worth the price. I would say you could just skip this one and get a peppermint shake elsewhere.

Dazbog Peppermint Chi
Disappointing. For the most point it was just a normal chi. I hardly got any peppermint flavoring.

Chick-fil-A Peppermint Shake
This is the standard that I hold all peppermint shakes to. This year though was a bit disappointing though. At the beginning of the season it took forever for many of the stores to get it and then once they did, everyone I tried was sold out. It took me till December 7th to finally get one. I'm used to being able to get my first one on Black Friday. I make sure to get one of these every year.

Nordstrom ebar Peppermint Ice Storm
This kind of tasted like those soft old fashioned peppermint candies that would just melt in your mouth. They really brought the peppermint flavoring without it being overpowering. One of the best peppermint drinks I found this year.

Peppermint Mocha (ink!)

I got this at the location in Cherry Creek Mall. Even after asking for extra peppermint, you couldn't taste the peppermint in it. It just had a weird after taste that I have noticed that some peppermint syrups have. Boring.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate Starbucks

This was a make it myself instead of an actual menu item. This was a medium sized drink with 7 pumps of peppermint syrup. It could have used at least a pump or more syrup. I'm starting to wonder how watered down their syrup is since it seems like they need so much to give things flavor.

Peppermint Mocha
I got this one at Milano Coffee. It was super bland even though I had asked for extra peppermint and there was a weird burnt taste to it.
