For a time I found myself ordering a fried chicken sandwich when I went out for food. I don't know about other people, but sometimes I find myself craving fried chicken. In sandwich form the base can be made complex by what is put on it or paired with it. Some were good and some were bad. Below are some of my chicken sandwich experiences.
IHOP
This sandwich really surprised me. It was way better then I was expecting and even better then some I have tried at higher end places. This one was on their IHOP happy hour menu where you got the sandwich and fries for $8. When it came with toppings I was really happy because a lot of other places will up charge you for toppings. The purple onions on it went wonderfully with the chicken. The chicken was fully cooked, but was not hard or dried out. This was such a good sandwich that it actually makes me want to go back to IHOP which I normally avoid. The only issue I had with the meal was the fries. They put seasoning on them, but it was not evenly applied. I fixed this by adding ketchup and a little syrup to them.
Black Eyed Pea
This sandwich looked better then it tasted. At $12.99 the only good thing about it was the batter they had used on the outside of the chicken was flavorful. The chicken was dried out. At least it came with so veggies people could use to try and dress it up. The bread was mostly soft with the inside lightly toasted, but they didn't have any sauce on it. It should have came with a side of mayo or some other sauce because without it overall it was dry. Luckily there was ketchup on the table and a little left over honey from our dinner rolls. A customer should not be forced to create a sauce at the table to try and fix a dry sandwich. Not a good food experience. Tried December 2022.
Chili's Chicken Sandwich
It was a little dry and could have used some extra sauce. I would say of the sandwiches I tried for this article it would rank somewhere in the middle in quality and price. It was on there 3 for me deal where you also got an appetizer and a drink for $10.99. What I did like was that for the meal you could sub in a veggie to save calories instead wasting them on the fries. Tried June 2023.
Smash Burger
At least they put some mayo on it. Even though it the chicken was a little dried out it was still better then so other more expensive ones. The sandwich was $7.99 and then I paid $3.99 for a side of smash fries which brought the total to $11.98 total. Tried in January 2023.
Circle K
When you eat at most gas stations you really don't have high hopes in how good the food is. This sandwich falls right into those low standards. It was super dry and even trying to add sauce to it did not help because it just would not soak in. It was hard, dried out, and just sucked the moisture from your mouth.
Wendy's Maple Bacon Chicken Croissant
This chicken sandwich is on their breakfast menu and even though it says that it is on a croissant it is not really a croissant in texture or taste. It's ok, but not good. It can be dry and bland. Tried July 2023.
Shake Shack Chicken Shack
This picture may be a little hard to see the actual chicken. I tried to go with the healthier version without a bun. I would not recommend this this because it was very messy and the chicken fell apart. The taste/quality to price was also not very good and I would not order this product again.
Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich
When I was a kid this was the gold standard of lunch food. As an adult now this sandwich as lost most of it's appeal. On its own is dry and you have to add sauce to it. The toppings are limited even if you pay more to get the deluxe version. Also the breading can't compete with many of the other options out there. I'll still order one every now and then when I'm feeling nostalgic, but mostly if I'm going to order anything there now it will only be their nuggets.
Mountain Pass Sports Bar Crispy Chicken Sandwich
This place is located in the Gaylord hotel. We had gotten there early and decided to grab some food since we had time before the dealer's room opened. The menu describes this sandwich as Nashville bacon, tomato, lettuce, buffalo aioli, Martin's sesame seed roll. Sounds good right....not so much when it is over cooked. As you can see from the picture the bacon is black in spots, and the chicken is well past golden brown in places. This gave the sandwich an overall bitter taste and the chicken was dried out with the little sauce on it not enough to counter the dryness. The best thing on this plate was the fries. Tried i September 2023 during NDK.
