Korean Culture Experience Day

The Korean Culture Experience Day was fun, but of course my favorite session was the cooking class.
This would be my first time making kimbap. I've done sushi classes before and made sushi with friends so I felt a little comfortable with this. The majority of the items we needed were on the table except for the rice that they had each table come up and get two bowls of. It was slightly funny that the instructor and to tell people a few times not to touch things yet until she could explain what we needed to do.
They had all of the ingredients pre-cut so all the class had to do was build the kimbap. As someone who has led different types of classes I entirely understand not trusting people with knives or scissors. This also speeded up the process since it could take non-cooks some time to try and cut food into skinny strips.

They had gloves for us to wear since it was kind of a free for all. They had enough food at each table for each person to be able to make 4, but our table only had 3 people and it basically became an all you can eat. I lost count of how many I made ( I want to say about 10).
The first step was to spread the rice while leaving a little room on one side to seal it. The rice was a little hard to spread since it was a type of sticky rice and wanted to clump.
Then you add the ingredients towards one side. They had both spam and fish cake. My mom is not a fan of fish cake and left that out of hers. It just meant extra fish cake for me.
This was a cheat picture for me since I put the seam towards the bottom. I tried to make one all pretty.
The majority of them came out looking like this because they didn't give us water to seal the edge. Some people were licking them to seal them... my mother and I did not. We were fine with them opening. They were just more like tacos. This was a fun class I would go to more events put on by this group.
